Fundamentals business lesson for the gym owners

I am eagerly anticipating this day, confident that the Chaiwala will soon make it happen. This article focuses on how a small business can expand by selling the same product consistently over the years.

For the past 10 years, I have been enjoying tea at Nana Tea stall and have noticed that the quality of the tea has improved. Additionally, they now offer extra cookies, cream rolls, and cakes for an additional price. Recently, Nana has opened a small snacks bar next to the tea stall, serving high-quality breakfast only in the mornings. Both of his businesses require taking one day off per week.

I learned a few things from him and his team

  1. Punctuality from 5:30 am to 8 pm - Consistency

  2. Consistently maintaining a polite and humble demeanor with everyone at his small stall.

  3. Working with a team of 3-4 family members

  4. Caring for everyone and engaging in pleasant conversations with all. (Occasionally, I forget to pay, and he kindly reminds me later)

  5. No disorder at their tea stall

  6. Occasionally, regular customers assist him with tasks - fostering a sense of community

  7. Marking birthdays and small events there - showcasing the love people have for them

  8. Providing better facilities than other stalls - leading to many tea stalls closing down

  9. Despite not having a shop, they likely sell 400-500 cups of tea daily

  10. Keeping themselves and their surroundings neat and clean

  11. Prohibiting smoking

  12. Experiencing a constant increase in the price of tea (their main product)

What gym owners can learn from the Chaiwala.

  1. Stick to the fundamental basics - Avoid straying.

  2. Ensure that the expert remains in control to steer the business.

  3. Maintain a consistent upward trend in the graph rather than resorting to discounts at any time.

  4. Securing loyal customers requires patience, as it takes time.

  5. Focus on acquiring customers genuinely interested in your fitness and health programs/products.

  6. Retain customers by continuously enhancing your processes, products, and the quality of your team.

  7. Focus on upselling rather than downselling.

  8. Your attitude, actions, and relationship with clients are crucial for achieving success.

What should be steered clear of?

  1. Shiny arrangements that are unnecessary

  2. Instructors and employees without any long-term objectives beyond survival

  3. Excessive equipment that is not needed

  4. Starting big is unnecessary

What holds the most significance?

  1. Individuals - who share the same mindset and ethical values, and assist in developing your business (clients or team members).

  2. Goods / services - aimed at providing optimal outcomes and satisfaction to individuals.

  3. Procedure - Ensuring the seamless operation of these individuals and products/programs with complete resilience.
